MOUNTSANDEL

COLERAINE, NORTHERN IRELAND

Archaeologist Professor Peter Woodman revealed the oldest known settlement in Ireland at Mountsandel through excavations over four seasons from 1973 – 1977. Along with the post holes and food waste discovered, there was also a great amount of flint found. Core axes, flake axes, picks and borers, scrapers, rods, needle points, and retouched blades were among the many finds now in the collection of the Ulster Museum.
